Utilities

We've been without our phone since Wednesday of last week, and there no internet. It made me think, of which of the 'utilities' could we live without for a period of time?

Telephone – yes. Inconvienient but not critical.
Water – no!
Gas – maybe. Very inconvenient not to have gas as this means no heating, hot water or cooking.
Electricity – possibly. As long as the contents of the fridge were safe, we could live without electricity for a bit.

Makes you realise quite how relient you are on these things though, especially when compaired to 100 years ago. No phone, no electricity, gas only for the lighting and a single cold tap. We don't know how lucky we are really!

Today is a day for remembering.
From my point of view, the attacks in America five years ago are worth remembering, but it is not as important, to me at least, as the fact that it's my second wedding anniversary!

Local Politicians

It's now nearly four months since the local council elections and things haven't settled down properly! In the elections for our Borough, quite a few Labour Councillors lost their seats and they lost control of the Council. It is now run by the Lib Dems and the Conservatives.
The trouble started on election night itself, when one prominent Councillor lost his seat. Apparently he did not offer his congratulations to his successor, but just stormed out in a major sulk. At a community forum meeting I recently attended a Borough Councillor who is also a County Councillor was trying to push all responsibility for local issues onto a newly elected Councillor because she is from a different party.

The problem with the Labour Party and its Councillors is that they think they have the divine right to rule in Newcastle. What they seem to forget is that it is the local residents and voters who give them their jobs and they are the ones who take them away when they don't like what their Councillors are doing.

It's time they stopped spitting out their dummies and grew up!

Not Again

Today, potential attacks on aircraft have been, thankfully, averted. Seems like everything has been done properly and things have been done to ensure people's safety.

So I find it unbelievable that some people are on the news whinging that their flights have been cancelled and potentially their holidays cancelled. Which would these selfish whingers prefer? To be alive and not able to go on holiday, or allowed on a plane and blown up?

Some people just can't see the bigger picture! :@

Not a happy bunny!

Literally!

I had to take our bunny, Honey, to the vets yesterday. She is never impressed at going to the vets, but I think it was worse yesterday as there were lots of dogs about!

Anyway, she's a bit overweight so it's diet time – poor love.

Oooo shiny

One of the teachers at work came to me just before the end of term saying that they needed a Mac notebook! So I priced one up and the head authorised it on the last afternoon of term. This meant some frantic setting up of accounts with Apple and writing of order forms! So it was put through and I heard nothing more until last week when I was in the office and I saw the order form which said not to be delivered until 6/9/06! Which is why it turned up on Friday! So I've been playing with it and I want it! It's too good for a teacher.

Freecycle

After finally getting round to sorting out the garage, we've had a few odd things that needed to be got rid of. Normally these would have gone down to the tip, but as there was nothing actually wrong with them we tried a different approach. We had a fridge freezer, a freezer, a rabbit hutch and run, some old carpet and a slightly dodgy printer to get shot of. So I put them on Freecycle. This is where you say what you've got and if someone else wants it, they can have it!
So all the stuff is gone to people who can use it, it's not been unnecessarily dumped, our garage is clear and we can actually put a car in it and I haven't had to go to the tip.

Splendid concept!

Wow!

Last night we went to one of the local working men's clubs as we had been promised a donation from their ladies darts team. Now I have to admit, I was not looking forward to it as working men's clubs are not my cup of tea. However, we were made welcome and when it came to the presentation, I went up and was given a sealed envelope. Inside was a cheque for over £600!!!

I was gobsmacked. I was expecting around £50 – £100. 😮

Little Gits

I think Mummy & Daddy are away next door as their evil offspring that have been left behind are being even more obnoxious and anti social than usual.
The other night they were round the back and round the front with their mates shouting and arseing about until well after midnight, and then yesterday, they had some band practice for around six hours. Luckily they finished at about 7.3o pm, or I think they may have had some really upset neighbours.
 
Typical of that family though. They only think about themselves and no one else.

Who Needs Spain?

It was a glorious day yesterday, so we decided to go to Llandudno for the day. All we did was have a wander in the town, sit on the beach and had a paddle – it was great!
What more can you ask for?

Winding Down…….

Well, virtually all the staff here at work are. Everyone is saying 'Only one more week to go'. If I hear that again, I'm going to scream! :-@ Only five more to go from my perspective! Some of these people don't know how lucky they are.

I went to one of our local primary schools yesterday as they wanted a bit of IT advice. What they want, and to some degree need, to do is buy a whole load of equipment. However, they don't have the money. So how are they supposed to provide up to date IT for their pupils if they don't have the cash? They can't even afford to employ a technician on a part time basis to keep everything running.

Just to change the subject totally, I've managed to get a car in our garage this week! That's the first time in 3 years!! Had another clearing out session and we've bought a plastic mini shed thingy for some of the junk. I think the garage was built for an original Mini though. Even with minimal stuff in the garage, it's still snug!

Jobs

Due to Carol being made redundant recently, I decided to try for a job with more money. There were two I applied for.
One, which I was interviewed for and got offered the job, I had to turn down as I would have lost money due to the extra travelling 🙁 .
The other didn't bother to answer my application until I started asking!

Shame really, as I would have liked the place that offered me the job. I've spoken to our head to see if I can get more money, but I've got to wait until September until he can speak to the Governors.
